New Jersey Institute for Disabilities (NJID)

The New Jersey Institute for Disabilities (NJID) offers specialized facilities, programs, and supports throughout the State of New Jersey and beyond for infants, children, and adults with developmental and related disabilities. 

With a dedicated staff of more than 500 employees, in 41 program sites throughout the state, NJID is one of the largest not-for-profit agencies of its kind in the nation. Each year, more than 1500 infants, children, and adults with disabilities and their families are helped by NJID's unique continuum of services.

Programs for Children

The Children's Center
Early intervention services are provided to infants from birth to three years with developmental disabilities and delays and their families.

Lakeview School
A state-approved private school offers unique special education programming for children with multiple disabilities ages three to twenty-one years.

Augmentative Communication & Assistive Technology Center
Assessment and consultation services are provided to students of Lakeview School to assess and recommend augmentative communication and computer technology systems.

Adaptive Seating & Enabling Equipment Center
Assessment and consultation services are provided to students of Lakeview School to assess and recommend seating systems and adaptive equipment.

Programs for Adults

Day Programs
State licensed Day Programs to serve persons with disabilities at 5 sites located throughout New Jersey.

Adult Community Support Services
Eligible clients create pathways to personal fulfillment by participating in choices of offered services within the community and NJID's resources.

Employment Placement Program
NJID employment specialists conduct vocational assessments, job training, and employment placement services for individuals with disabilities.

Residential Services - Group Homes
Seventeen group homes offer 24-hour supervision, personal assistance, and medical oversight for persons who require specialized care.

Residential Services - Supervised Apartments
Nine supervised apartments are available for individuals who demonstrate greater capacities for independence.

Special Programs

Bridges
A Project Funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development offers support to senior citizens and persons with disabilities who reside in select municipal housing authorities.

Snack Shack
This program provides job training and meaningful work opportunities for persons with disabilities within the framework of a partnership with the municipal government.
