"Research shows the duration of untreated psychosis is often about 2 years. Most of the research suggests that the longer people go without treatment, the worse the outcomes long-term... the earlier we can intervene in the sequence of moving towards a psychotic disorder the better."

-Steven Silverstein, Ph.D.

This video training library has been designed to increase your knowledge about psychosis and help you recognize symptoms and behaviors in youth and young adults who may be at clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR-P). It contains a series of twelve taped didactic presentations provided by seven nationally recognized subject matter experts. It also includes brief introductory videos as well as testimonial videos representing different experiences with psychosis, CHR-P, and its treatment from a young adult, family members, and outreach workers. You will become familiar with multiple tools and resources to help you identify and work with at-risk youth, young adults, and their families.

CHR-P refers to youth and young adults who exhibit noticeable changes in perception, thinking, and functioning which typically precedes a first episode of psychosis (FEP). During this pre-psychosis phase, individuals exhibit one or more of the following: attenuated psychotic symptoms, brief intermittent psychotic episodes, or trait vulnerability coupled with marked functional deterioration. In this video training library, we will define and discuss all of these terms.

“Your work matters to the people we serve. It’s our hope at the Department of Children and Families that you find helpful information in this series and can apply some of what you learn here as early as tomorrow.”

-Mollie Greene, Assistant Commissioner Children’s System of Care, NJ Department of Children and Families
